Tropics Update: Hurricane Ian expected to gain strength in Gulf of Mexico, hit Florida

Hurricane Ian, the system we have been tracking for many days, unfortunately is on course to become a major hurricane and hit the Gulf Coast. Right now Florida looks to be the most likely point of landfall.

As of the newest advisory, we now Ian was a Category 1 Hurricane. With sustained winds of 75 mph and gusts up to 90 mph, it is moving NW at 14 mph.

It’s on path to impact the western parts of Cuba bringing significant wind and storm surge.

From there, it is forecasted to enter the gulf, and is expected to gain strength.

Ian could impact parts of southern Florida and the Florida Panhandle as early as Thursday morning.
