Hurricane Ian – Florida’s Costliest Disaster

On September 28th, 2022, Hurricane Ian would make landfall in southwest Florida as a devastating category 4 hurricane. I would chase the storm and intercept the eye near Punta Gorda, Florida and capture footage of the incredible power of the storm. This is my story of chasing Florida’s deadliest hurricane in nearly 100 years.

Hurricane Ian is now considered the costliest hurricane to ever impact the state of Florida and 3rd costliest hurricane on record, behind only hurricanes Katrina and Harvey. It claimed the lives of 157 with 146 of those being in Florida. The vast majority of which were a result of the catastrophic storm surge. Damage estimates at the time of making this video are around $113 Billion. Communities that suffered major impacts from the storm included Fort Myers, Naples, North Port, Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte, Sanibel island, Pine island and many more.
